Hey there!
Just thought I'll share some of my thoughts. I had a really bad week... was tiring, hard, brought lots of bad news and disappointments, and on top of that, I was sick. I know I say that little thins make my day, but this week, believe me, was extra bad. Two days this week, I woke and could find no reason to go to school. One day I was just really horribly sick, but I was too proud to tell my parents that, because I'd been fighting with that over the weekend. I pulled myself out of bed, and was torn between having a free day at home, and having to catch up with my work if I was absent from school. But not making a decision meant I had to go to school, and in the end I was glad I had decided(against my better judgement) to go to school. I didn't have a great day, but I was happy that I had stuck it out and gone through the day, however bleak it looked. Sometimes the person who needs the most convincing about your strengths, tolerance and capabilities, is yourself.
Nowadays I find it really hard to find a reason to smile. My life seems to be going just nowhere. I know I sound ungrateful, and whiny, and like a grumbly seven-year-old bored on a rainy evening, but I can't help it.
So if you're feeling like me, let's cheer each other up: This is a poem from the Chicken Soup books. My favourite of all the Chicken Soup books is Chicken Soup For The Soul: Tough Stuff. That book was.. okay, I'm drifting, and thankfully I realized it before I type so much I don't have the heart to delete it.
The poem is about a smile, and though I know that this poem most likely is not a true story.. it's really wonderful. let's face it..why do we all love fairy tales? Because they start with 'Once upon a time' and have princesses and castles and plots that seem unlikely, but always end well. Just read the poem, and feel the 'awesomeness'.
She smiled at a sorrowful stranger.
The smile seemed to make him feel better.
He remembered past kindnesses of a friend
and wrote him a thank-you letter.
The friend was so pleased with the thank-you
that he left a large tip for lunch.
The waitress, surprised by the size of the tip,
bet the whole thing on a hunch.
The next day she picked up her winnings,
and gave part to a man on the street.
The man on the street was grateful;
for two days, he'd had nothing to eat.
After he finished his dinner,
he left for his small dingy room.
(He didn't know at the moment
that he might be facing his doom.)
On the way home he picked up a shivering puppy
and took him home to get warm.
The puppy was very grateful
to be in out of the storm.
That night the house caught on fire.
The puppy barked the alarm.
He barked 'til he woke the whole household
and saved everybody from harm.
One of the boys he rescued
grew up to be President.
All because of a simple smile
that hadn't cost a cent!
Never frown, 'cause you never know who's falling in love with your smile.
Hoping for a better week,
